Bailey the lion eats Ash the owl at Col Zoo

Bailey, a male lion at Colchester zoo ate Ash the owl from the bird demonstration team at the weekend after the owl flew into the lion enclosure and one of the lionesses batted it out of the air.

It's sad that the owl died, but great to think that the lions still have natural instinct for captive born animals.

I'm loving some of the comments - especially the why didn't the staff stop the lions one...

Yes, I loved that, and the one suggesting a big net over the enclosure.

I'd be very upset if it was our little Casper tho :)

The comments were brilliant!

Poor little owl, but, if you land in a lion enclosure, there is only ever going to be one outcome...

Not a nice thing to see, but good that natural behaviours haven't died out in a captive animal.
